GET THE WORD OUT - As first time filmmakers, festival submissions are essentially very expensive lottery tickets. This film needs your voice!
CONTACT LOCAL FILM SOCIETIES - Tell them this Jason Molina documentary exists. Someone there is bound to be a Jason Molina fan, right? If you don’t have any direct film festival contacts, they might. That’s who we need you to reach: festival programmers.
USE YOUR NETWORK - Tell festival programmers that you are excited to see this film, and that you hope they program it. Share your enthusiasm & tell them that you will help get butts in seats at their festival is a huge plus. Tag festivals in posts and comments.
CONTACT FESTIVALS - Even if you don’t know where the film is submitted -Programmers often work at multiple festivals. Say “I saw this trailer and I know the film would resonate with your audience.” Festivals trust audience referrals more than cold submissions. It’s up to you.
KEEP MAKING FESTIVAL SUGGESTIONS - There are 1000s of them. Each has a unique personality. If “You Fuckers Figure It Out” is not a match, there is no sense in submitting to them. YOU know your local film festival way better than we do. Help find a HOME!
